Gabe McPhail (she/they)
Who We Are
Gabrian “Gabe” McPhail (she/they) is a community-rooted strategist, facilitator, and planner with over two decades of experience guiding local initiatives at the intersection of resilience, equity, and sustainability. Their work blends process design, project implementation, and public engagement— skills honed through years of leading collaborative efforts across sectors, including nonprofit management, municipal planning, food systems, and community development.
As the founder of Resilient Communities, Gabe supports towns across Maine in planning for a more resilient future, securing funding, and building practical strategies to address climate challenges and evolving community needs. Their approach is grounded in a background in human ecology, advanced training in climate adaptation and facilitation, and a deep commitment to inclusive, community-led change.
Whether facilitating a public workshop, managing a project, writing a grant, or designing engagement materials, Gabe leads with empathy, creativity, and a strong respect for local knowledge— because they believe the most effective solutions are rooted in the voices and lived experiences of the communities they’re meant to serve.
Gabe is an avid hiker and trail runner. She lives with her dog Mr. Business on the unabridged island of Vinalhaven, Maine, traditional land of the Penobscot Nation of the Wabanaki Confederacy.
“I strive (albeit not always successfully!) to live and work in alignment with my values – Awareness, Accountability, Clarity, Empathy, Equity, Gratitude, Honesty, Humility, Integrity, Joy, Respect, Service, Sustainability, and Serenity. I believe in choice, diversity, risk, courage, and the power of community. I believe in using my privilege for “good”, and I work intentionally to show up as the best version of myself.”
